Fontana Optometric Group opens new building; see video

But at the same time, one local company — Fontana Optometric Group — has been remarkably successful. In fact, this business has opened a brand new, much bigger location to serve its continually expanding patient base.Larger kitchens may require one or more ceiling fixtures positioned in the center of the room. Additional perimeter fluorescent bulbs squares or rectangles of lights placed near the walls should be installed for added illumination. These can be in the form of recessed downlight or track lighting. On the other hand, small kitchens may require only either two or three ceiling mounted fixtures or downlight placed near the walls.

“We’re really excited about our new office because we have so much more room to grow,” said Leo. “We were bursting at the seams in our old building.

“It turned out to be very nice because we’re only one city block away from our old building,” he said with a smile, “so it doesn’t allow our patients to get too lost trying to find the new building.”

The company, which has seven employees, was originally founded in 1948.Health issues are one of the main reasons that people led spotlight use saunas. If you have been thinking about purchasing one to improve your health issues, you might have made a good decision. The debate over which type, infrared sauna vs traditional saunas should be used, is dependent on what ailment you are trying to relieve. Fontana Optometric Group has grown steadily, coinciding with the city’s enormous population increase over the years, and Leo said it now has about 6,000 patients.

For Wong, the move to the new building has been “pretty inspiring and a little scary at the same time,” considering that the old location had been in use since 1952.

The move turned out to be a difficult process, taking more than five years to complete after the original idea was conceived.

“It’s quite a process, not for the faint of heart,” said Leo.

One of the major challenges was securing financing to build the facility “at the worst possible time” — right in the middle of the drastic economic downturn, Wong said. The Led strip light will concentrate its light downwards into the room and has the capability to shine as broadly as a floodlight or as narrowly as a spot light, the choice is really yours.

But he is extremely happy now with the completion of the building, which has 3,600 square feet (making it more than twice as large as the previous one).

“We’re excited to have all the space that we have now,” said Carol Rucobo, the office manager. “The staff is excited to have some elbow room.”

The company also has the latest optometric technology to go along with environmentally-friendly features, creating an ultra-modern green facility.

“We have the first dimmable, controllable LEED-light emitting light fixtures that just became available,” Wong said. “We have high efficiency florescent tubes in all the fixtures. Our goal was to have no light bulbs anywhere in the building; we have a few left, and we’re going to eliminate them all eventually.”

Interested persons can get a first-hand look at the new facility when a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. An open house is scheduled for Saturday,To begin with, they will make an impact in the decor of the room. Joint LED project tees off at Northlands

Joint LED project tees off at Northlands

District staff began investigating lighting upgrades last year as part of a district-wide effort to cut back on energy spending. What's more, Northlands is working to market itself as "the greenest golf course. To begin with, they will make an impact in the decor of the room. Plus, this lighting is fantastic, lending more natural led lights which is always welcomed in any home."

"We happened to be talking to a company that was looking for a showcase for their products," said Martin Kruysse, the district's manager of strategic economic initiatives.Designers suggest that a good cfl bulbs ambient lighting needs to have a variation of fixtures. Do not limit yourself to a single ceiling mounted fixture, which often creates shadows. Ambient lighting can be served well by fluorescent lamps.

"So we said 'If you replace all of our lights, we'll showcase your products for you.' Mantra Energy Group agreed to do this."

Mantra is the Canadian agent for a Korean firm, Fawoo Technologies, that is looking to expand its LED business into North America. Mantra provided $25,000-worth of various LEDs for the Northlands clubhouse.

"It's an architecturally marvellous building. It has many different types of lights; it has halogen lights and spot-light and pot-light fluorescents and tube-light fluorescents and so on. So we needed to figure out how to replace each of those properly," Kruysse said. "We're tickled pink with it. Our customers are very happy with it -- it provides a nice ambience in the clubhouse -- and the staff in the kitchen are very happy with the quality of the lighting."

With the easily replaced bulbs already changed, the district plans to spend "a few thousand" dollars in labour to rewire fixtures for the more complicated replacements. One of the great benefits from the low voltage Insulator range is that the budget range is still of a considerable quality and value. The term budget can often lead people to think that the cheaper alternative is going to be of a much poorer quality but that is not always the case. But the municipality is applying for these costs to be covered by BC Hydro,While not all current LED replacement bulbs live up to their claims, products like the Cree LR6 table lamps Downlight provide you with beautiful warm white light, an 85% energy savings over conventional incandescent bulbs and a 50,000 hour life span. which is eager to encourage similar demonstration projects.

"We want to make sure the entire facility is converted and make sure everything works, and at that point we will probably erect a little bit of signage and the company will hopefully bring some of their potential customers there," Kruysse said.

But a few extra foursomes at the district-owned course aren't the only benefit to North Vancouver taxpayers,Health issues are one of the main reasons that people led spotlight use saunas. If you have been thinking about purchasing one to improve your health issues, you might have made a good decision. The debate over which type, infrared sauna vs traditional saunas should be used, is dependent on what ailment you are trying to relieve. he said. The LEDs will last far longer than conventional bulbs -- as long as 15 years -- which will save labour costs in the long term. The expected 80 per cent drop in lighting electricity usage should save 27 kW-h, or $1,875 annually.

Energy manager Dominica Babicki said the district will check on the actual savings after one year has passed. If the project is deemed a success, the district may start swapping the lights in other municipal buildings.

"This is the biggest shift since the light bulb was first invented," she said. "It's like going from a typewriter to a PC, that's how big this change is."

Of course the district won't be getting the next batch of LEDs for free, but Babicki said it's hard to say how the economics will stack up when the district has to pay market price for the lights. But with most major lighting manufacturers moving towards LEDs, prices should fall before the district is looking to refit another building.

"The computer analogy works well," she said. "When computers first came out they were very expensive. But very quickly, the computer went from many thousands to the $1,500-mark and then stabilized."

Indoor pot makes cash

Indoor pot makes cash, but isn't green

Then he bought four metal shipping containers and buried them in the hole. Inside the containers, Sasso installed 32 1,000-watt lights, a ventilation system and plumbing - all of it powered by a 60-kilowatt generator. His subterranean plantation produced 60 pounds of pot every 56 days, the time it took to turn a crop. They were popular strains, with names like Blueberry, Herojuana, White Widow and Big Red.

He'd begun growing pot as a teenager in the mid-1980s, when police helicopters forced growers to hide their plants indoors. Going underground was the next logical step, to shield the lights from the infrared sensors of law enforcement.

"I grew up believing that the only way to make money was to grow marijuana, and I was good at it," said Sasso, now 42 and serving a 14-year sentence at the federal penitentiary in Atwater.

His career as a pot entrepreneur, drawn from interviews with Sasso and from court records, mirrors the arc of the marijuana business in California.

Today,Health issues are one of the main reasons that people led spotlight use saunas. The debate over which type, infrared sauna vs traditional saunas should be used, is dependent on what ailment you are trying to relieve. indoor-grown pot is king. A weed that grows naturally in the sun has been tamed into an industrial product that is branded like soda pop and as subject to fashion as women's shoes. Pot raised indoors or underground commands up to $3,000 a wholesale pound, twice the price of outdoor varieties. One of the great benefits from the low voltage Insulator range is that the budget range is still of a considerable quality and value. The term budget can often lead people to think that the cheaper alternative is going to be of a much poorer quality but that is not always the case.

A Nov. 2 ballot measure to legalize limited cultivation and use of marijuana is the talk of Northern California's "Emerald Triangle," where indoor pot is an economic mainstay. The effect that legalization would have on the marijuana market is unclear. Much would depend on the policies enacted by cities and counties, which would have power to regulate and tax production and sales. Oakland is making plans to allow cultivation in warehouses, which could affect prices.

Nowhere is the ascendancy of indoor pot more evident than in the rugged hills of the Emerald Triangle: Mendocino, Trinity and Humboldt counties, where some of the most potent weed in America is grown.

In Arcata, several hundred houses are partly or entirely devoted to growing marijuana, said Police Chief Tom Chapman. This has led to more residential fires, a consequence of overburdened wiring.

In half of the city's 50 or so structure fires each year, firefighters come upon "grow" rooms, said Fire Chief John McFarland.

Money from indoor pot has led to an increase in home-invasion robberies and fostered a taste for huge trucks, designer jeans and plastic surgery.

In urban parts of Humboldt County, electrical use per household has leaped 50 percent since 1996, when voters approved the state's medical-marijuana initiative, according to a study by the Schatz Energy Research Center at Humboldt State University.

In Arcata and unincorporated areas of the county, average electrical use rose 60 percent during that time - while California's overall use remained virtually flat.

"The housing inventory in California is continuing to get more efficient. Yet our per-capita use is increasing,Designers suggest that a good cfl bulbs ambient lighting needs to have a variation of fixtures. Do not limit yourself to a single ceiling mounted fixture, which often creates shadows. Ambient lighting can be served well by fluorescent lamps." said Peter Lehman, director of the Schatz Center. "Indoor grows have got to be part of it. How much? Nobody knows."

In areas without electrical service,To begin with, they will make an impact in the decor of the room. Plus, this lighting is fantastic, lending more natural led lights which is always welcomed in any home. the diesel generators that power indoor grow operations foul the air, and spills of diesel fuel have polluted streams.

Along Highway 101, logging trucks have been replaced by big rigs stacked with bags of potting soil.

Key to indoor's rise is that it channeled the energies of a new group of growers native to the Emerald Triangle: rural kids who saw a chance to make more money from a weed than they, or their parents, ever thought possible.

Cree Needs to Drop the Rose-Tinted Goggles

Cree Needs to Drop the Rose-Tinted Goggles

As it turns out, that rosy view of the LED-lit future may have been a bit too optimistic.

First quarter sales landed at $268 million, a smidgen below that seemingly pessimistic next-quarter outlook but technically an improvement on the order of 1.5%.Decorating and creativity go hand in hand and energy saving light are often used by homeowners to create interesting spaces. Earnings more than doubled from the year-ago quarter to $0.53 per share, which sounds impressive until you remember that the previous quarter saw quadrupled earnings year over year.

Cree is executing to plan, spending two-thirds of its operating cash flow on capital improvements such as a new manufacturing facility in Research Triangle, N.C. CEO Chuck Swoboda claims that demand for LED lighting "continues to gain momentum" and that slow sales was caused by "a decline in LED chips.Larger kitchens may require one or more ceiling fixtures positioned in the center of the room. Additional perimeter led tube squares or rectangles of lights placed near the walls should be installed for added illumination. These can be in the form of recessed downlight or track lighting. But I think we've seen this movie before, only with different actors. To begin with, they will make an impact in the decor of the room. Plus, this lighting is fantastic, lending more natural Projector Lamp which is always welcomed in any home. The happy ending could be years away.

A veritable Greek chorus of analysts lowered their ratings on Cree after this report, and they all seem to agree that we're looking at an oversupply situation that puts pressure on selling prices, margins, and total sales. It's a little tricky to get a real read on this market because Cree's biggest competitors are multinational conglomerates Philips (NYSE: PHG), General Electric (NYSE: GE), and Siemens (NYSE: SI), none of which are likely to break out the business impact of LED lighting in their financial reports. To make a kitchen more inviting, it needs not just good quality cabinets, adequate working area, highly functional accessories Led down light and appliances but also a well designed lighting scheme. The market just ain't big enough for anybody to care much about it. But for Cree, LED lights are everything. When the other players build out their LED manufacturing lines, this is the stock that suffers from the resulting price wars.

This is what happened to memory chip producer Micron Technology (NYSE: MU) a couple of years ago when that entire industry launched new factories far above what the market really needed, thus triggering a brutal price war. Toshiba and Samsung would always be OK regardless, as their other operations could absorb the damage from a crummy memory market. Many smaller memory specialists with less impressive balance sheets went under altogether or were swept up by a wave of industry-wide consolidation.

Did Cree, Philips, and the other LED guys pay attention to that debacle? If they did, we should see product prices stabilize and capital investments in lighting factories subsume over the next couple of quarters. If not, things could get really ugly for Cree.

Intelligent LED lighting to save 70% electricity: MOEA

An intelligent-control system for LED lighting will be launched Monday in Taipei County in a government-led effort to promote green power.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) told CNA it had invested NT$18 million (US$586,800) to install more than 500 intelligent LED street lamps in three major parking lots in Sanchong City,For businesses who have a large electric bill, switching to LEDs could cut your energy bill in half, while still keeping all of the brightness, and no fluorescent flickering! REAL-TIME IMAGING OF STROKE MODELS

REAL-TIME IMAGING OF STROKE MODELS

One of the major impediments to understanding how brain cells die during a stroke and identifying new ways to protect them has been the long-standing inability to image strokes, or "ischemic events" in living tissue. Now, we all know that a typical diode can output a very limited amount of light, so how does our Phillips led bulb work? Well, it finds strength in numbers. Now researchers at Cornell University, led by Research Associate Nozomi Nishimura, have developed methods to induce strokes in animal models and image the events as they unfold.

"We can see the dynamics of interaction," Nishimura says, adding that some neurons most likely die due to interactions with many different types of cells, including immune system cells, vascular cells, astrocytes and glial cells. She and her colleagues visualize intercellular dynamics via two-photon excited fluorescence (2PEF) microscopy, which is able to image individual cells and capillaries. Employing relatively long wavelengths of light, Nishimura and her colleagues have succeeded in imaging at greater depths into tissue than has been possible to date.

Nishimura and her colleagues have also developed a method to induce localized lesions within rodent models. They adapted a technology, femtosecond laser ablation, typically used in micromachining of solid materials, for a novel biological use. This ability to induce specific small lesions is particularly important to creating viable models in which to study the progression typical of dementia.Remember, led lights themselves aren’t new; they have been available to consumers for about four years as bulbs that can be screwed into existing light sockets According to Nishimura, it is becoming clear that many elderly people suffering from dementia have experienced a series of microstrokes, triggering cumulative damage. "How is it that these small bleeds or blood clots affect neurons?" she asks, adding that the ability to introduce and then image microstrokes in a model system should shed light on how damage might best be mitigated.Indirect lighting offers an interesting and eye catching form Led lamp light of light from concealed source.
